FS2 Tutorial :: Getting Clean Timecode Signal This tutorial is designed to help you learn how to set up FinalScratch 2 with a good, clean timecode signal. For a complete description of how to setup your system, please refer to the Owner's Manual. Below are some screen shots designed to show you how to set up your system properly. There are also examples of what an improper setup can look like. We hope you find this tutorial helpful. When calibrating your system, use the Gains on the ScratchAmp to properly adjust the timecode input levels as shown. You should see the levels and timecode display looking something like the examples below.
If you are having problems getting good timecode, try using the Time Code Monitoring screen to troubleshoot and solve the issues. Here are some basic problems and what they might look like in the software. Bad Right Channel This example shows an absence of timecode in the right channel. This could be due to a faulty tonearm or cartridge. Bad Left Channel Here we see the same problem, but with the left channel. Bad Needle If your needle is dirty or has become damaged, the timecode might look like this. Try cleaning or replacing your needle. Rumble Issues Rumble, while not immediately noticeable to the ear, can interfere with the timecode signal resulting in erratic behavior. You can use the Rumble Threshold setting to help eliminate rumble, but going to far can also cause problems, as seen in the screenshot below. |
