Stanton RM.406
by Shayn Almeida

At this years NAMM show in January, one of the strongest showings of any DJ company was undoubtedly Stanton. With a completely pimped-out and techy overhaul, Stanton's re-engineered gear was as solid as a mobile DJ needs it to be—and flossy enough for Paris Hilton to DJ with. (Notice, I did not say mix.)

Stanton's RM.406 is a professional four-channel DJ mixer good for club, mobile, and all you renegade desert DJs out there who are seeking a great all-around quality mixer. The engineers at Stanton are surely DJs, as they have included virtually every option necessary for any environment or club situation that one might come across.

You can connect up to four turntables, 10 line sources, three microphones and... there's even a handy little 1/8th" input on the front for hooking up your iPod! There are also plenty of different outputs, including a Master, Zone, Booth and a Recording output. It even has a Subwoofer output with a built-in crossover!

One of the frills that I actually got really excited about was Stanton's new Illumiknobs. Each of the Gain and EQ knobs feature a ultra-thin beam of light that actually shoots out of the button, showing the knob position in the dark—all which have complete kills. There is also a fully adjustable crossfader curve for both house and hip-hop styles of mixing, and the cue and FX Button are backlit so you can see when they are on.

As far as I can see, this mixer incorporates the ability to handle almost all requests of functionality, compatibility and overall quality in sound design. Good job Stanton, the world of DJs will be thanking you.
